Henley Lake park covers 43 hectares adjacent to the Ruamahanga and Waipoua Rivers and has extensive trails throughout the park for dog walkers, cyclists and disc golf players. The trails are made of lime and are suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. It can be accessed from Colombo Road or Te Ore Ore Road with large carparks at both entrances. The lake itself covers 11 hectares and includes 4 small islands.
At the south of the park, an extensive area of wetlands is home to a large amount of birdlife, as is the lake itself. Near the Colombo Road entrance, there is a children’s play area. Along the path around the lake you will also find a range of functional fitness equipment like monkey bars. Near the Te Ore Ore entrance, there are communal BBQs available for the general public to use.
There is a disc golf course within the grounds, you will need to supply your own discs.
The lake is home to a number of activities including waka ama, dragon boating, and motorised model boating.
During the height of summer the lake experiences a toxic algae bloom that is harmful to people and dogs if ingested so we recommend that people stay out of the water during the hottest months.
